The Power of Being vs Doing

The coolest thing happened this weekend! I had an opportunity to really put into practice “being” while in the midst of “doing” when “doing” felt like the only way I was going to get what I needed.

In the end, it was “being” that provided the results I desired. Read on!

Ever feel like this? You’re super busy, but not really getting anything done?

“Doing” can feel really frustrating when you’re not getting the results you desired or doesn’t seem like what you’re doing is bringing you closer to your goal.

It must be time for a Universal shift because I’m seeing my friends and clients explore the whole “doing” dynamic and dipping their toes into the “being”. And boy! it can me challenging! Especially growing up in a lifetime of being told and taught if you wanted to have or accomplish something you had to do! And now we’re learning to be?

What is this “be” thing? You mean just sit still?

No, not exactly. I’m not advising to sit back and just wait for things to happen. Action must follow. But there are practical tools and ways to manage your energy that can be almost more result producing than “doing” all the time.

So, here is what I experienced this weekend:
On the East Coast we had an early snow storm and had a lot of downed trees. After things had cleared up a bit and I was able to get out on my daily walks I saw a lot of really good wood lying around the sides of the road – our town is coming around to clear it up.

Since I burn wood to heat my home it was like I won the lottery – the payout? Free wood.

I thought I’d save the wood from being tossed into a landfill and bring it to a good home. Oh! and since I just spent well over $500 to fill my oil tank, it really seemed worth the effort.

Well, it seems by the time I had help available (muscles and a truck) most of the smart, green folks beat me to it and what I had seen piled up and waiting for me had been brought to another good home. We continued to drive around and after a while we realized we were spending too much of our time and wasting gas! (not so green or environmentally healthy!)

I was pretty bummed! Was feeling like I missed out, lost an opportunity. I felt myself getting upset (also not healthy!). That’s when I realized I had to let it go and have trust and faith I was “doing” what I could, made the effort, but I wasn’t getting the results we’d expected.

And when you’re not feeling happy, you have to change what your doing and thinking – because you have control over how you feel.

So, I took a deep breath, let go, put myself in a place of “being” and was going to enjoy the rest of my Saturday with the company of my muscle man 😉

On the way home with a 1/2 empty truck (we did find a little along the way 🙂 a nice man in a red truck pulled over and asked “are you looking for firewood?” “YES!” I replied. He says “well, I’m cutting down a tree, you’re welcome to come by and take it – probably give you 2 truck loads full.”

Woo Hoo!!

It was a totaly win/win. He got help clearing the branches from his elderly neighbor lady’s yard from whom he was helping and we got a huge truck load of wood! Free! Could you imagine NOT picking up $200 on the side of the road if it where laying there?

Abundance comes in all forms.

Did you catch that? All that help going on for one another? Can you just feel the LOVE?

So, I share this because when I was constricting myself with frustration and being bummed out I was cutting off the flow. There was NO wood to be found. When I let go, acknowledged I made an effort, and trusted we did what we could, an Angel sent a nice guy in a truck to provide us with more than we could have imagined!

My point? Intention, action, let go.

Maybe there is something to this “being”
